Getting to Ohope Beach

Ohope Beach is approximately a 4 hour drive from Auckland, the arrival point for most overseas visitors coming to New Zealand, and a 5 minute drive from the historic Bay of Plenty township of Whakatane.

The scenic drive from Auckland is a mix of inland and coastal scenery. The coastal section on the Pacific Coast Highway continues through Ohope Beach before heading to Gisborne via Cape Runaway on the East Cape.

Whakatane is a one hour flight from Auckland's domestic terminal. Rental vehicles can be booked for airport pick up and the drive to Ohope Beach takes a further 10 - 15 minutes.

Rotorua, a tourist mecca, is a scenic one hour drive going through Hongi's track and passing three beautiful lakes on the way. Mt Tarawera (last eruption in the 1800's destroyed the pink and white terraces) and the site of the buried Maori village are around the same travel time from Ohope Beach.
